Bible Clubs Shaping Positive Behaviour Among Children in Tamani Village
Every Saturday morning in Tamani Village, the silence that usually envelops the village is replaced by the sound of children singing, praying, and laughter. Leading these gatherings are Mavuto,15, and Alinafe,16. The two are members of Chibisa Bible Club where children come together to learn about faith, build character, and support each other in making better life choices.
A few years ago, life was very different for Mavuto and Alinafe. Poverty and peer pressure often kept Mavuto out of school, and missing classes affected his grades.
“I would skip school and get caught up in bad company. My school performance was very poor,” says Mavuto.
Alinafe, on the other hand, was often in conflict with her peers and had little interest in prayer or church.
“I was reluctant to join my peers who were coming together to pray,” says Alinafe.
Today, their stories are very different. Through World Vision Malawi’s Channels of Hope for Child Protection and Celebrating Families programs, Chibisa Bible Club was established to support good behavior, reduce school absenteeism, and help children make positive choices.
“Today I am happy to say that I am a changed person. I now understand how to respect my parents, teachers, and peers. I pray during meals and other activities, and my school performance has improved.” Says Mavuto.
On the other hand, Alinafe has also learned to apply Bible verses in daily life. She is inspired by Proverbs 3:5-6.
Chibisa Bible Club goes beyond spiritual lessons. With support from teachers and religious leaders, children learn Bible verses, sign language for peers with hearing impairments, singing, dancing, and storytelling. They also receive Bible study materials and hymns from World Vision to support learning and personal growth.
