Meliana: A Youth Impact Leader Driving Change in Bobonaro
Meliana, an Impact Leader from Bobonaro is a strong example of youth volunteerism and leadership under World Vision Timor-Leste’s Roman Ba Foin Sa’e Project. Through her active participation, she has consistently supported and implemented project activities aimed at empowering young people and communities.
Meliana has completed a wide range of capacity-building trainings, including Impact Module, Reproductive Health, Child Protection, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), GEDSI, Employability, Conflict Resolution, Gender Hope Channel, and Leadership. These trainings strengthened her knowledge, skills, and confidence, enabling her to support both her personal development and her community.

As an Impact Leader, Meliana now mobilises and organises youth and community members to participate in project activities and partner-led sessions. She works with organisations such as MSSI to disseminate information on Child Protection and GBV, VPU–PNTL on the Law Against Domestic Violence, and MSTL on Sexual and Reproductive Health for young people.
Inspired by the employability training—particularly financial planning and budgeting—Meliana started a small kiosk and canteen at her home. This initiative now generates an income of USD 15–30 per day, helping her meet daily needs and build independence.
Reflecting on her past, Meliana shares that before gaining these skills, her future felt uncertain following the loss of her father. Today, she is confident, resilient, and motivated. She is grateful to World Vision Timor-Leste and the Roman Ba Foin Sa’e Project for providing opportunities that transformed her mindset and enabled her to build a sustainable livelihood while serving as a role model for other young people.
