Vegetables and a new home
Naomi Hassani holds vegetables she grew in her garden. In January 2011 World Vision loaned Naomi 200,000 TSh (about US $125) on a 6-month loan to cover expenses for her garden, where she grows watermelons, carrots, tomatoes, maize and onions. Last year, Naomi earned 300,000 TSh (about US $190) for her family. This year, with the help of the loan, and the farming and bookkeeping training that came with it, her profits stand at 800,000 TSh (about US $500). With the profits, Naomi wants to build a new home for her family on their 2.5-acre property. Photo by Paul Bettings
