From independence to big dreams

“I want to become a TV editor to provide updated knowledge to all people, especially children in remote and mountainous areas like me”, shared Cúc, 16, from mountainous district of Lang Chánh, Thanh Hóa province, about her dream.
Cúc is an independent girl, who decided to live far away from her family, staying at school to pursue her studying.
She can stand confidently in front of her peers and local people to talk about child-related issues in her hometown. “I become more confident each time I present. Moreover, I am happy that I can help other people in my village”, proudly said Cúc.
The now excellent high school student and active member of World Vision’s children club, has grown up a lot from the girl chosen to be a sponsored child of World Vision Vietnam in 2006.
“I could not write and read at that time so my teacher had to write the greetings’ card for me to send to my sponsor,” recalled Cúc.
And even a bigger change from the child Cúc used to be. She was so shy as her family struggled with poverty when she was little. Her father, with the burden of being a breadwinner, had to leave his peasant wife and their two children for the capital city of Hà Nội, working as a bricklayer.
But thanks to World Vision’s saving and credits group in which her parents participated in, the family income has partly improved so far.
“My parents were trained on animal husbandry and supported with pigs and chickens. They could save more money to buy rice, clothes and learning aids for me and my brother”, shared Cúc.
Looking back at her childhood and how much she has changed, Cúc said: “I am proud to be a World Vision Vietnam’s sponsored child who has grown up along with its support”.
