Seeds of Tomorrow
“When I came in World Vision at a couple of months before, I was so unsure, scared and depressed. I thought everything was so unstable. It was a pretty bad stage,” says Anukul Mali, a Child Forum member of Joypurhat ADP.
Anukul is living in Bazruk Varunia Village under Dogachi Union of Joypurhat district. He is the eldest son of Babu Chandra Mali and Shefali Rani among two brothers. His father is a fisherman, who has to rely on other’s ponds to catch fish to earn for his family. Anukul’s mother is a housewife.
From his childhood, Anukul has strong desire for education. But as his father was not capable of bearing his educational expenses, he decided to get his son involved with World Vision’s Sponsorship Programme in 1998. But things did not go smoothly.
“Though World Vision provided all of my educational support as I was a sponsored child under Joypurhat ADP, but it was not enough! I was always haunted by my father’s sweated face under great strain,” he says. “So, I could not go on any longer and had to stop my studies to help my father.”
“But World Vision is with me even now, like they were before, and I started my studies again,” says Anukul. He is now studying at a vocational training school in grade 12 specialising in welding and fabrication. He also received mechanical tools from the ADP.
“This training helps me lot. It’s like seeds of a brightening tomorrow of my life that World Vision reaped for me today!” Anukul added smiling. He is now working as a home service provider for fixing electronic problems at his locality. With this earning he is now bearing his study and family expenses.
Recently, Anukul has also involved in a child forum of Joypurhat ADP and are actively participating in different awareness raising program like drama, folk songs to promote his community about different social and community based issues such as early marriage.
Anukul expresses his heartiest gratefulness to World Vision Bangladesh as he benefited from Joypurhat ADP. He said, “When I see World Vision doing many development activities in our community, I feel proud to see that our society is becoming developed day by day. It inspired me a lot.” So, he is developing himself to become electric engineer so that he could give service back to his community, which would involve him with community development.
