Global Campaign-“It takes me to end physical violence against children” launched in Bangladesh

The Government of Bangladesh has been implementing different initiatives for the complete well-being of children and the achievements have been quite remarkable. However, in spite of that, violence against children still continues in various forms and manner. According to UNICEF, there are still 82% children aged 1-14 who are victimized by different kinds of violence.

To address the issue, the National Human Rights Commission, World Vision Bangladesh and Child Rights Advocacy Coalition jointly  launched a campaign “It takes me to end physical violence against children” tosupport different initiatives of the Government in order to establish the SDGs, especially targeting 16.2. The intended target of Sustainable Development Goal 16.2 reveals “End abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and all forms of violence and torture against children”.                                            

The launching ceremony of this campaign was held on 23rd March, 2017 at 10:10 AM in BRAC Center Inn, 75 Mohakhali, Dhaka. Mr. Kazi Reazul Hoque Chairperson, National Human Rights Commission Bangladesh chaired the event, and Mr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Principal Coordinator (SDG Affairs), Prime Minister’s Office was presented in launching ceremony as a Chief Guest. Fred Witteveen , National Director of World Vision Bangladesh was also present the event as special guest. 

Through this campaign, it is hoped that five million children in Bangladesh will be reached, and be protected from physical violence at home, school and work place by 2021. World vision Bangladesh and Child Rights Advocacy Coalition will be actively working with the Human Rights commission to end all forms of physical violence against children in Bangladesh.
