World Vision Zambia and Rotary Club Celebrate Sucessful Handover of Mbala Water Supply Project In Northern Zambia

Lusaka, Zambia – May 21, 2025, World Vision Zambia, in partnership with Rotary Club, today officially handed over the Mbala Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Rotary Project to the community through the Government of Zambia.
The event, graced by the Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Honourable Eng. Collins Nzovu, MP, marked a transformative milestone in providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions to over 15,000 residents in Mbala District, Northern Province.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, Rotary District Governor Tom Kamwendo, World Vision Zambia leadership, traditional leaders, and community members. In his keynote address, Hon. Eng. Collins Nzovu emphasized the project’s alignment with national development goals:

"Water is life. Today’s handover reflects His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision, where every school, health facility, and community in Zambia has access to clean, safe, and reliable water. This project, valued at US$1,067,768, is a testament to what we can achieve through strategic partnerships with World Vision Zambia, Rotary Foundation, and the support of our donors."
Key Achievements of the Mbala WASH Project
World Vision Zambia highlighted the project’s far-reaching impact, including:
26 hand pumps installed with India Mark II technology, serving 6,000 people.
10 piped water systems in schools, benefiting 9,000 students and nearby communities.
4 piped systems at health facilities, enhancing infection prevention and maternal care.
2 newly constructed maternity annexes at Katito and Mutwizi health centres.
Training for Water Point Committees, masons, teachers, and community members to ensure sustainability.
World Vision Zambia, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Technical Program Manager, Jessy Samuyachi reaffirmed the organization’s commitment.

"This project goes beyond infrastructure, it empowers communities, reduces waterborne diseases, and keeps children, especially girls, in school. We are proud to collaborate with the Government and Rotary to deliver lasting change."
In his address during the handover ceremony, Rotary District Governor Tom Kamwendo emphasized the transformative impact of the project:
"Access to clean water is a fundamental human right and a catalyst for development. This partnership between Rotary and World Vision Zambia demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing critical water challenges and uplifting communities."

Hon. Nzovu urged the community to safeguard the facilities.
"With this investment comes shared responsibility. I call upon the people of Mbala to protect these assets, use them wisely, and ensure they serve generations to come."
The event concluded with a symbolic cutting of ribbons to officially open the facility for use by the community.
