More than 565,000 people were reached in May 2018 through World Vision's response to conflict and food insecurity throughout South Sudan. The response team reached:

  • 272,263 people with food security and livelihood activities
  • 112,832 people with clean water and sanitation services
  • 78,856 people reached with health services
  • 68,989 peole with nutrition assistance
  • 15,613 people with education programmes
  • 16,130 people with protection assistance
  • 513 people with shelter and other essential relief items

Still, there's more to do.

World Vision remains concerned that:

  • Malnutrition rates are alarming and indicate that more than 30 per cent of children are malnourished in the areas of Leer and Mayendit in Unity State and Longochuk and Upper Nile in Upper Nile.
  • Conflict spiked in Pigi County in early May and led to mass displacement. Those who fled require assistance to address nutrition, clean water, hygiene and sanitation and gender based violence, along with food and other essential relief items.
  • Humanitarian workers have been targetted during abductions  in the Greater Equatoria. There are concerns this could affect humanitarian service delivery in the area.
  • The deterioriating economic situation is preventing many South Sudanese from reaching their basic needs.

To address these issues, and meet the needs of people in need, World Vision has requested an additional $15.3 million to expand its response.
