World Vision signs collaborative agreement with the Ministry of Economic Development
World Vision Lanka (WVL) entered into a collaborative partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) whereby WVL’s programmes in livelihoods, economic development and micro finance will contribute towards the government’s Divi Neguma programme objectives.
The MOU was signed by World Vision Lanka’s National Director Suresh Bartlett and the Additional Secretary R.A.A.K. Ranawaka in Colombo recently.
“This agreement will help us to effectively collaborate with Government at all levels in assisting the poor and vulnerable communities and help transform the lives of children and their families,” said World Vision Lanka National Director Suresh Bartlett.
This partnership of technical and financial resources will assist in alleviating poverty and developing sustainable income methods for the vulnerable throughout Sri Lanka. It also aims to strengthen the collaboration between the organisations in contributing to the upliftment of rural communities in all WVL programme areas.
“Joining forces with World Vision will enable the MED to expand its reach and assist a greater number of households as part of the Devi Neguma programme,” Mr. Ranawaka said.
To-date World Vision has assisted 91,000 beneficiaries in home gardening, cottage industry and micro finance in line with the objectives of the Divi Neguma programme. Under this MOU another 59,000 households in 41 Divisional Secretariats will receive assistance. WVL’s total contribution towards these projects will exceed Rs. 4,000 million.
