How Medical Support and Compassion Gave Jannat a Second Chance
Story By Lipy Mary Rodrigues

Imagine being just seven years old, and your world is no bigger than your bed. Every breath hurts. Every step tires you. This was my life—I’m Jannat, and for as long as I can remember, I lived with two holes in my heart. My mother rarely let me go outside, but she whispered a promise every day: “One day, you will run and play.”
I clung to that hope. I dreamed of laughing freely, feeling the wind on my face, and running without fear.
Some days were harder than others. I watched my parents cry in secret, and their tears scared me more than the pain in my chest. One day, in a doctor’s office, their sobs overwhelmed me. I thought, why can’t Allah stop their suffering? Then, help came in a way I had never imagined. Through World Vision’s Bangladesh's compassionate support, I received life-saving heart surgery. After the operation, I returned home transformed—not just healed, but renewed. I could finally run, play, and breathe without fear. I felt like a bird set free.
My mother says I have been given a second life. She tells everyone that kindness and care made this possible. Today, I love school, I dream of becoming a teacher, and I no longer fear hospitals.
My story is a reminder that with timely medical care and human compassion, even the smallest lives can be transformed. Sometimes, hope comes in the form of someone extending a helping handlike World Vision Bangladesh did for me.
