For 16-year-old Grace, mornings used to start with a long walk to queue for water before going to school. Now, she simply turns on a tap in her yard, a small act that has transformed her daily life.

This remarkable change is the result of World Vision Ghana commissioning a 9-point mechanised water system in collaboration with community leaders and development partners in the Denchemoasue community of the Bodi District.

During the commissioning ceremony, Joshua Baidoo, Strategy and Integrated Programmes Director at World Vision Ghana, encouraged the local community to take ownership of the facility. He emphasised the innovative approach of supplying water directly to households, ensuring safer and more efficient management of the resource.

To ensure sustainability, the community has set up a five-person Water Management Committee. According to the committee’s treasurer, Prince Nyarko, they have already raised over GHS 7,000 in less than a year by installing water meters and collecting affordable fees. “We generate around GHS 1,800 per month, which we save in a bank account to maintain the system,” he explained.

Dora, 15 shared how the project has impacted her school life. “We used to have to walk home from school just to get water. Now, there’s a tap right behind my house. I get to school early and am always punctual.”

The initiative has also earned praise from local leaders. David Desmond Chamme, representing the Bodi District Assembly, commended World Vision’s contribution and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to continued collaboration.  He encouraged other development organisations to work together to uplift the district.

Nana Kwasi Gyabeng II, the chief of Denchemoasue and abesehene of the Sefwi Wiawso traditional area, also expressed his gratitude. “In the comfort of our homes, we wake up, turn on the tap, and water flows. If we must take our last breath to sustain this facility, we will.”
