Following a high-level meeting with the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, World Vision Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) challenges in the Volta Region.

The meeting, which took place in Ho, brought together the Agortime Area Programme (AP) team from World Vision Ghana, led by Eric Opoku, and the WASH team, led by Cephas Wedam. The discussions focused on World Vision’s Universal Service Coverage (USC) plan, which is part of the organisation’s wider WASH Business Plan. This initiative aims to provide all communities with safe, affordable, and sustainable WASH services.

Hon. Gunu acknowledged the scale of the water challenges facing Agortime-Ziope and the wider Volta Region, while also praising the long-standing interventions of World Vision Ghana.

“The Volta Region is not immune to the national challenges of accessing safe water. However, we are encouraged by World Vision Ghana’s commitment to addressing these issues. The Regional Coordinating Council is ready to collaborate with World Vision to deliver long-lasting, sustainable solutions for our communities,” he said.

Eric Opoku, the Agortime Area Programme Manager, emphasised the importance of courtesy calls in strengthening the collaboration between the government and civil society.

“Our Universal Services Coverage plan is designed to ensure no community is left behind,” he explained. “By working closely with government and community leaders, we are determined to provide sustainable WASH services that transform lives and uphold dignity.”

Cephas Wedam, World Vision Ghana’s WASH Technical Specialist, stressed that the partnership would accelerate progress towards Ghana’s development goals.

“With the support of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, we can expand access, strengthen systems, and ensure that children and families thrive through safe water and sanitation,” he said.

This visit reflects World Vision Ghana’s broader mission of collaborating with the government at all levels to increase access to WASH services, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 6: ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
