Children in Thiqar plant seeds for their future

Sunday, October 5, 2025

World Vision Iraq held a campaign led by children to plant 2,400 trees in Thiqar: 1,600 trees in Nasiriyah and 800 trees in Chibayish. The effort included planting in four schools and in public parks, with the collaboration of both municipalities. Along with the children and World Vision Iraq staff, teachers and parents from the schools participated.

This initiative contributes to climate change mitigation and enhances the resilience of local communities. By increasing green spaces in schools and public areas, it promotes environmental awareness among children and families, fosters community involvement, and highlights the vital role of green zones in improving quality of life and protecting ecosystems.

Under the Nexus Accelerator Fund, the campaign involved active participation from local directorates, including the municipality, governorate staff, the Directorate of Agriculture, the Directorate of Water, and the Directorate of Education, as well as a member of the Thiqar Governorate Council.

The children in Thiqar tagged trees with their names to symbolise their roles as climate guardians for their community.
