For generations, life in Mofati Village was defined by the daily struggle for water. Families shared muddy streams with livestock, and waterborne diseases were a constant threat. The long walks for water stole time from children’s education and their parents’ work.

That reality sad reality  shifted when World Vision Malawi installed a new water facility in the area.

"I used to be late for school because fetching water was taking too long. Now I can get water quickly and reach school on time," says Emelita.

The village has embraced this new resource. A maintenance committee was formed, and its Chairperson, Nyadani Chiwe, is clear about their responsibility.

"This water system is a blessing, and we cannot afford to neglect it. We encourage every household to contribute to its upkeep so that it can serve us for many years," says Nyadani.

For Health Surveillance Assistant James Saidi, the borehole is a cornerstone of public health.

"With clean water, cases of diarrhea and cholera will be reduced. We are also encouraging households to build toilets. Combining safe water and sanitation ensures better health for everyone," says Saidi.

Over 1000 people are around Mofati Village are now accessing water from the newly installed water facility.

Looking ahead, the village expects more than just improved health. With safe water now within reach, children can spend more time in school, families can focus on productive work, and the community is better positioned to pursue lasting development built on dignity and resilience.
