DR Congo: Between Lake Dangers And Conflict, WALIP Project Brings Water, Hygiene, And Hope To Vitshumbi People
This article highlights the humanitarian crisis in Vitshumbi, a fishing community in eastern DR Congo caught between armed conflict and the dangers of Lake Edward. It describes how thousands of people, including displaced families, rely on unsafe lake water, exposing women and children to disease and deadly wildlife. Through its integrated WALIP project, World Vision is responding by providing emergency WASH kits, improving sanitation, rehabilitating solar-powered drinking water systems, and supporting livelihood diversification. Together, these actions aim to protect lives, restore dignity, and build long-term resilience and hope for the people of Vitshumbi.
