UNFPA Endorses World Vision Ghana as Trusted Partner in Reaching Ghana’s Most Vulnerable

By Priscilla Adjei-Laryea
UNFPA Ghana has reaffirmed its confidence in World Vision Ghana as a reliable partner in advancing health, reproductive rights, and adolescent programming for underserved and hard-to-reach communities.
The endorsement was made during a strategic engagement between World Vision Ghana’s new National Director, Dr. Tinah Mukunda, and UNFPA’s Country Representative, Dr. Wilfred David Ochan, where both organisations discussed opportunities to deepen collaboration in line with Ghana’s health and social development priorities.
During the engagement UNFPA’s Country Representative, Dr. Wilfred David Ochan, noted that while its focus increasingly lies in policy, capacity building, and normative change, the success of its interventions depends on credible partners like World Vision to deliver tangible results at the community level.
Discussions between the two organisations highlighted shared priorities, including expanding access to reproductive health and family planning, preventing child marriage and gender-based violence, and strengthening maternal health services, particularly in fistula prevention and emergency obstetric care.
In addition, both sides expressed commitment to advancing human rights, tackling harmful practices, and ensuring gender-inclusive policies and services. These priorities align closely with UNFPA Ghana’s 8th Country Programme (2023–2027), which emphasises adolescent and youth development, gender equity, and improved quality of care.
According to UNFPA’s Country Representative, Dr. Wilfred David Ochan, World Vision Ghana’s community reach, proven implementation strength, and alignment with UNFPA’s values make it a partner of choice. The organisation’s adaptability and ability to complement UNFPA’s upstream policy work with effective service delivery on the ground were also highlighted as key strengths.
Looking ahead, both organisations expressed intent to expand their collaboration through joint proposals addressing nutrition, disease prevention, and emergency preparedness. Plans were also outlined to engage the private sector on issues such as obstetric fistula, and to coordinate campaigns on child protection, climate resilience, food security, and harmful practices, ensuring that community voices remain central to the process.
By publicly endorsing World Vision Ghana, UNFPA has signaled its confidence in the organization’s capacity to deliver meaningful impact. For World Vision Ghana, the endorsement represents an opportunity to scale up its work in some of the most vulnerable communities in the country, in alignment with both national and UN priorities. As the partnership evolves, it is expected to strengthen Ghana’s progress in adolescent health, gender equity, and the well-being of children and youth.
