A mother trained in Family MUAC screening identified her child’s malnutrition early, helping him recover and enabling more children in East Bale to access timely treatment.

A group of driven young people in Nyanza — a commune in southern Burundi known for its oil palm — is rewriting challenges into opportunities. Trained by World Vision in business planning, organizational management, and mindset change, sixteen youths came together to form the Multiproduction Cooperative. Their mission: to transform residues left after palm oil processing into eco-friendly charcoal.

When Thabile Gamedze could not afford medication for her sick son, she feared for his future. Today, thanks to entrepreneurship support from World Vision Eswatini and the Youth Enterprise Revolving Fund, she runs a thriving animal feed business that enables her to provide healthcare, nutritious food, and a brighter future for her child.

“Chol's recovery is a testament to the power of timely intervention and a mother's dedication. When Adut first arrived, she was anxious. But she followed every feeding instruction perfectly. Golden light kissed shattered homes where memories slept beneath the mud. A red teddy bear lay silent in the ruins, carrying the echoes of childhood dreams swept away by the flood. I lost a shoe to the sludge, but thousands lost their homes, their safety, and the ordinary tomorrows they once imagined. Yet resilience rose like a river reed through the silt, bending beneath the torrent but refusing to break, as Bimala, a mother of a sponsored child, walked forward with quiet courage. And above the wreckage, hope stood like sunlight after rain, stubborn as a seedling pushing through stone, refusing to be washed away.

On Nigerien National Women's Day, the women staff of World Vision Niger donated essential medical equipment to the Dosso Mother and Child Health Center, enabling the facility to fully operate a second operating theatre. Before the donation, the center had only one functional theatre, making it difficult to meet the growing demand for emergency obstetric and gynecological surgeries. According to Dr. Bacharou Adamou Mamane Sani, the lack of equipment and partners often delayed life-saving interventions. The donated equipment including an operating table, surgical lights, cesarean and gynecological surgical kits, warming lamps, and an oxygen concentrator has transformed surgical services. With two operational theatres, the center can now treat more than 15 patients daily, significantly reducing waiting times and improving emergency care. The new equipment has also enhanced working conditions for healthcare staff and contributed to reducing maternal and newborn mortality. Dr. Bacharou expressed his gratitude to World Vision Niger, emphasizing that this timely support has strengthened healthcare services and brought lasting benefits to women, newborns, and the wider Dosso community.

GAKURU’s story illustrates the devastating impact of conflict and displacement on children facing malnutrition in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. After recovering from severe acute malnutrition with support from World Vision, two-year-old GAKURU was forced to flee with his family when violence swept through his village, leading to a relapse. Through continued nutritional support and follow-up care, he eventually recovered. His journey highlights the resilience of children and families living through crisis, while showing how World Vision’s Nexus Accelerator Fund continues to provide life-saving nutrition support in hard-to-reach and conflict-affected communities.
