Nalukwale Community School, which once struggled with dilapidated infrastructure, has undergone a remarkable transformation. Thanks to the Citizen Voice & Action (CVA) accountability approach implemented by World Vision Zambia in partnership with the Education Above All Foundation’s Educate A Child programme and the Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia (FAWEZA), the Nalukwale community has been empowered with skills through training in the CVA model to monitor the standards of services provided. This has enabled them to advocate effectively for quality service delivery and accountability from the government.

Today, the skills acquired through the CVA approach have culminated in the construction of a 1x2 classroom block, fully furnished with 50 double-seater desks, funded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). This new facility provides a safe and conducive learning environment for over 400 learners.

The impact has been profound.

"The new classroom block has brought new life to our school," says Mr. Sinyenda, a teacher. "We can now teach without worrying about the rain or harsh sunlight. Our learners are more engaged, and we've seen a significant improvement in their grades."

The community has played an active role in the project, contributing labour, time, and ideas.

"We're proud to have been part of the community voice that engaged the government on this service delivery," says Mr. Hamweemba Moorgan, a community member. "Our children deserve the best, and this classroom block is a step in the right direction."

Beyond improving learning conditions, the new classroom has boosted community morale.

"We're witnessing a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm among learners, teachers, and community members alike," says Ms. Siankule, the school headteacher.

The CVA approach has united the community, demonstrating the power of collective action and community-led development. Nalukwale Community School is now a beacon of hope, exemplifying the positive impact of community-driven initiatives on education and development.
