World Vision Zambia Hands Over Health and Education Infrastructure in Nkeyema District

In a major boost to healthcare and education services in Western Province, World Vision Zambia, through its Agriculture, Nutrition, Education and Water (ANEW) Project, has officially handed over newly constructed infrastructure to the Nkeyema District community. The handover ceremony, held in collaboration with the government and local stakeholders, marks a significant milestone in efforts to improve the well-being of vulnerable populations in the region.
The newly commissioned facilities include a maternity annex at Maloba Clinic, surgical wards at the zonal clinic, and ablution blocks at Njonjolo and Nalumino Mundia Schools. These developments are expected to enhance access to essential maternal and child health services, while also benefiting over 20,000 people with improved sanitation and clean water access.

In the education sector, the construction of a new classroom block at Katomwa Primary School and a teacher’s house at Kapa Primary School is set to improve learning conditions and boost school attendance rates.
Speaking at the event handover, the Guest of Honour, Western Province Minister, Hon. Kapelwa Mbangweta, praised World Vision Zambia for its long-standing partnership with the Nkeyema community.
“The completion of these infrastructure projects shows the significance of teamwork and joint endeavours in promoting our shared goals in healthcare, education, and water and sanitation,” he said. “As government, we are proud to work with partners like World Vision because together, we are contributing toward meeting national and global development targets.”

Local health officials also expressed their appreciation. Faustina Musanka, the facility in-charge at Maloba Clinic, noted the immediate impact of the new maternity annex.
“Mothers used to sleep on the floor when the clinic was full. Now, with the new maternity annex, mothers will be able to deliver and be accommodated after childbirth. This is a big plus for us.”

Speaking on behalf of World Vision Zambia National Director Marc Nosbach, Resource Acquisition and Communications Director Pennia Mavedzenge highlighted the power of collaboration.
“None of these milestones would have been possible without the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders,” she said. “With these facilities, our aim is to create conducive learning environments, improve attendance rates for children in schools, and most of all, provide safer and more comfortable healthcare services for pregnant women.”
The ANEW Project continues to demonstrate the critical role of integrated development approaches in improving the quality of life for rural communities. With continued collaboration between NGOs, government, and local stakeholders, Nkeyema District is poised for sustained progress in health, education, and sanitation.
