Alan Kurdi - One year on and the horrors of war continue.

Thursday, September 1, 2016

“Today marks one year since little Alan Kurdi was found washed up on a beach in Turkey. That day the world seemed to wake up to the horror of the Syrian crisis but where are we one year on? Recently Omran Daqneesh was pulled from the rubble covered in dust and blood after a bomb hit his family’s home in Aleppo. But he was one of the lucky ones. Countless other children have suffered much worse fates. International humanitarian law continues to be flouted on a regular basis with ongoing reports of hospitals being bombed inside Syria. Not only have innocent children died in these attacks but with each additional medical facility bombing, the ability of medical professionals to provide much-needed health care diminishes.  Granting immediate access to besieged communities in Syria is crucial so life-saving humanitarian assistance can reach children and families who so desperately need it. Most importantly, what we need is peace. This conflict has dragged on for over half a decade. The international community must step up and use absolutely all its diplomatic influence to bring a peaceful resolution to this conflict,” said World Vision’s Syria Response Director, Wynn Flaten.
