A wonderful singing voice and a warm heart and friendliness was the presents that German language pop musician Laith Sascha Kamal Al-Deen brought to underprivileged children and their communities when he traveled to World Vision’s working sites in Vietnam on April 9-12.

The musician, who is working as Ambassador of World Vision, cheerfully played guitar, sang songs and prepared lunches for children during his visits to their kindergartens and primary school in Tien Lu district in the northern province of Hung Yen and Trieu Phong district in the central province of Quang Tri.

“I’m glad and honour to be here. I can see how music has made a change over the past years. It’s really touching me.”

Laith Al-Deen said after he witnessed how children received good care at a kindergarten in Tien Lu district. The students aged between 3 and 6 years of age stay at school from morning till afternoon after World Vision helped to build new classrooms and assisted teachers in preparing a healthy and balanced meal for the children.

After Tien Lu, Laith Al-Deen met his sponsored child and her family in Trieu Phong. The musician has sponsored Ai Lien for ten years. The girl is now 17 years old and preparing for the entrance examination to the university. She is a good student and wants to study business administration.

The first meeting between the long-time sponsor and his child was open and pleasant. The musician took his guitar and sang the song “Pictures of You” for the girl and her parents at World Vision’s Trieu Phong Area Development Programme.

Apart from his interaction with his sponsored child, kindergarten and primary students, Laith Al-Deen attended a competition on child injury prevention at school and visited a nutrition club, a hamlet rescue team and a village development board. World Vision is implementing those activities in the two districts.

"It was such a good feeling to see that all effort comes together in amazing results. The work that you do here is priceless and so important so that it really honours me, to be a little part of it. With people like you we'll change this planet.”

Musician Laith Al Deen wrote about his feeling at Trieu Phong ADP’s log-book before saying goodbye to World Vision’s staff.

Born of an Iraqi father and German mother, Al-Deen grew up in the United States and Mannheim, Germany. He achieved his first fame with his debut album, Ich will nur wissen (English: I Only Want to Know), from which came his first two singles, Bilder von Dir (English: Pictures of You) and Kleine Helden (English: Little Heroes). His second album, Melomanie, released in 2002, resulted in the singles Dein Lied (English: Your Song) and Jetzt, Hier, Immer (English: Now, Here, Always), and was just as successful as his debut album.

A live album from the corresponding tour brought the singer further into the spotlight, and, continuing in his string of releases, Die Frage Wie came out in 2005, and after a short break, Al-Deen issued Die Liebe zum Detail in mid-2007.
