Statement: World Vision welcome permanent cessation of hostilities in Ethiopia

Mother displaced by violence, sits with child in Tigray Ethiopia
Wednesday, November 2, 2022

We are delighted at the announcement of a permanent cessation of hostilities in Ethiopia, brokered by the African Union.

World Vision welcomes this news and commits to supporting all efforts to restore the well-being of children who have been negatively affected by this two-year conflict.

Millions of children and their families have become vulnerable and need urgent support. The conflict in Tigray, Amhara, and Afar regions, northern Ethiopia has led to mass displacement across conflict areas. Hospitals, health centres, and schools have been degraded, damaged, and destroyed.

We pray for the permanent cessation of violence. We want to immediately get to work scaling up our response activities in conflict areas where millions have been unable to access humanitarian aid. We are also committed to supporting Ethiopian children, communities, and leaders in their efforts to build lasting peace.
