Permaculture Interview - Kiran ADP

Saturday, March 20, 2010

I have five children. I received this milking cow and chicks under the Permaculture Project. We lived on an infertile land and due to our poverty we couldnt cultivate much. But with the Project, we have been able to cultivate various types of crops. We used to cultivate only manioc and plums and there were a few coconut trees as well. But now I have 60 different types of crop.

I get a good income through this and I could even get one of my cows released from where I had pawned it. I could buy jewellery, things my children need for schooling bags, socks and shoes. I can even give them pocket money now.

I also bought a batch of ducks from the income I received and I rear them now. Because of the Project I am able to fulfill the responsibilities towards my children.

We no longer buy any vegetables from the market because we can pluck fresh vegetables from our own garden. We used to buy vegetables that had chemicals used on them but now we have chemical-free vegetables.

We are very happy that we can now eat poison free food and it would give good health and long life to our children. We thank you for giving us this opportunity.

I have also received a variety of plants and equipment through this project.

We get milk from this cow and get manure too. With milk we make curd. Before we had to buy all this, but now we can make it at home and it doesnt cost us.

With the ducks we get egg and children can eat. The excess I sell one egg at Rs. 25/-. We receive a good income from that too.
