Strengthening Ghana’s Border Communities: PATRIP Foundation Reviews BORDER Project
February 2026
World Vision Ghana, in partnership with World Vision Germany and RACED Ghana, recently hosted a joint monitoring visit with the PATRIP Foundation and Georg Fiebig Consultants Pty Ltd for the BORDER Project in Ghana’s northern border regions. The visit reaffirmed a shared commitment to strengthening resilience, promoting peaceful coexistence, and stabilizing fragile communities along Ghana’s border areas.
Funded by the PATRIP Foundation, the three-year BORDER Project seeks to address pressing humanitarian and development needs while tackling the root causes of vulnerability and instability. The project currently supports five host communities: Zini, Tarikom, Issakatinga, Bansi, and Fielmo, as well as two refugee settlements. Through an integrated approach that combines infrastructure development, livelihood strengthening, peacebuilding initiatives, and social cohesion activities, the project is promoting stability in communities affected by displacement and cross-border pressures.

The visiting team, led by Mialy Raveloarison, Programme Manager for West Africa at the PATRIP Foundation, together with Georg Fiebig and Linda Trudel, Consultants to the PATRIP Foundation, directly engaged with stakeholders and beneficiaries. The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to gain firsthand insight into project implementation and assess progress made. Beyond its oversight function, the mission strengthened collaboration among partners and created an opportunity for reflection, shared learning, and discussions on sustaining long-term impact.
As part of the visit, the delegation engaged of key institutions and traditional leaders, including the Ghana Refugee Board, the leadership of Sissala West and Bawku West District Assemblies, the Paramount Chief of Zini and the Chief of Yarigu. These engagements highlighted the importance of coordinated action among government authorities, traditional leaders, civil society, and development partners in promoting social cohesion and ensuring sustainable outcomes for both refugees and host communities.

World Vision Ghana expresses its sincere appreciation to the PATRIP Foundation for its continued partnership and support. We are equally grateful to community leaders and residents for their warm acceptance of refugees and their commitment to peaceful coexistence. The insights and recommendations shared by chiefs and elders during the visit will further strengthen project implementation and enhance community wellbeing.
The monitoring visit reaffirmed a powerful truth: sustainable peace and resilience are built through partnership. By working together with development partners, government institutions, traditional authorities, and communities, we are not only addressing immediate needs but also laying a stronger foundation for stability, opportunity, and hope in Ghana’s border regions. Through the BORDER Project, lives are being restored, trust is being rebuilt, and communities are moving forward together toward a more resilient future.
