Mr. Baafour Otu Boateng, Board Chair of World Vision Ghana (WVG), expressed joy at the fact that World Vision Ghana is driven by the vision to ensure life in all its fullness for the most vulnerable children, their families and communities. He recounted the impact World Vision Ghana has made in the area of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) across the communities it serves. He stated that 570 communities have been provided with about 1,509 water sources and sustainably, nearly 80% of the boreholes remain in use after two decades.

Mr. Baafour Otu Boateng made these declarations during a donor engagement forum on bridging the learning gap at the basic level with sustainable WASH interventions for a supportive learning environment at the Best Premier Hotel, Accra, on March 24, 2022.

The purpose of the event was to engage key stakeholders to discuss and make concrete decisions that will not only help improve basic education in Ghana but eventually improve learning outcomes for vulnerable girls and boys in deprived and hard-to-reach communities.

WVG National Director, Mr. Dickens Thunde, emphasized the need to provide clean water and promote sanitation and hygiene in schools, which are crucial in ensuring that children remain healthy and regular in school. He mentioned that the high number of dropouts caused by the non-availability of WASH facilities in schools can be tackled if only the various actors collaborate and support one another.

Part of the segments of the event featured an exhibition session where participants took their turns at the various booths representing education and WASH for updates on the achievements made and future plans to improve service delivery.

World Vision Ghana works with communities to improve the learning gap for all children. Through its unlock literacy programme, children have access to additional resources after school and volunteer teachers who support them to improve their reading.
