World Vision Ghana Marks Day of Prayer with Call to Shine as Light of the World

By Vivian Adu, Communications Officer
World Vision Ghana has marked its annual Day of Prayer with a heartfelt call for staff, board members, partners, and communities to live out the theme drawn from Matthew 5:14–16: “You are the light of the world.”
The event was observed simultaneously across the country, including at the organisation’s staff in the Northern Operations, bringing together staff in a spirit of gratitude, intercession, and renewed commitment to serving Ghana’s most vulnerable children.

At the national gathering, National Director Dr Tinah Mukunda expressed deep appreciation to staff and partners for their dedication, particularly during a challenging season. She described the Day of Prayer as a moment of joy prepared by God and encouraged participants to reflect on how they embody the theme in both their personal and professional lives.

“If you are the light of the world, do you have the light? Are you walking in the light?” she asked. Dr Mukunda reminded staff that, “you can’t give what you don’t have,” stressing that World Vision must shine its light through the resources and trust placed in it. She called on all to be the light that helps darkness disappear.
Board Chair, Dr Mrs Mary Amoako Coleman, also addressed the gathering, testifying to God’s faithfulness throughout the year despite challenges such as funding cuts.
She affirmed that, “the children we work with have been catered for because God is good,” and urged staff to carry the light forward into FY26, “We cannot fail Ghana and the most vulnerable children in this country. Keep the light aflame, and the strategy will come alive for the children.”

The programme featured dedicated prayer sessions for unity, the success of the organisation’s new strategy, the safety and well-being of staff, and the protection of children. Rev Sam Ofosu Excellence ministered during the event, encouraging staff to ensure their light continues to shine both individually and collectively as an organisation committed to transformation.
In the Northern Operations, staff and partners also gathered under the same theme. Rev Isaac Lankoriba of the Assemblies of God Church, himself a proud beneficiary of World Vision Ghana’s programmes, led exhortations and prayers, sharing a powerful testimony of the organisation’s life-changing impact on vulnerable communities. His words inspired both the GI-WASH and Northern Operations teams as they prayed for children and committed the organisation and its leaders into God’s hands ahead of the new financial year.

“When community and faith leaders who have witnessed our work first-hand share their stories, it reminds us why we do what we do. Thank you, Rev Lankoriba, for your powerful testimony and for leading prayers for the most vulnerable,” remarked Rexford Bugre, Northern Operations Manager.

The Day of Prayer across all regions reaffirmed World Vision Ghana’s faith-driven mission and its resolve to remain a beacon of hope, compassion, and light for children and communities throughout the nation.
