Lighting the Way: World Vision Zambia’s Day of Prayer Sparks Hope for Fiscal Year 2026

October 1 is not just another day at World Vision Zambia; it is a day of reflection, unity, and renewed purpose. Staff, partners, and faith leaders gathered to mark the Day of Prayer, a tradition that’s become a spiritual anchor for the organisation. This year’s theme, “Light of the World,” inspired by Matthew 5:14–16: “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
It was more than just a verse; it was a call to action.
World Vision Zambia Vice Board Chairperson Ms. Mumbi Mwila didn’t sugar-coat the road ahead.

“We must also be realistic; FY2026 will not be without challenges,” she says. “The economy remains uncertain. Climate change continues to threaten food security and livelihoods. Donor resources are becoming more competitive.”
But she didn’t stop there.
“Let me say this: challenges are not the end of the story,” says Ms. Mwila. “With faith, challenges become opportunities. With innovation, obstacles turn into new pathways. With unity, we are stronger than the storms we face.”
Her message was clear: it is time to think differently.
“We must be proactive. We must think creatively, use technology wisely, build new partnerships, and deepen community ownership. We cannot simply do what we have always done; we must adapt, we must innovate, and we must do it with Christ at the centre," says Ms. Mwila.
And World Vision Zambia National Director Marc Nosbach echoed that spirit.

“This Day of Prayer is not just a tradition, it is a declaration,” he says. “We are here to remind ourselves that our light must shine in the darkest corners. Our faith is not passive; it is active, bold, and rooted in service.”
The gathering ended with worship, heartfelt prayers, and a renewed sense of mission. As FY2026 begins, World Vision Zambia is not just bracing for challenges; they are stepping into them with faith, creativity, and a deep commitment to being the light in every community they serve.
