From Struggle to Harvest: Meet The Chikwenda Family

Agriculture provides a livelihood for more than 70% of Zambia's population, yet more than three in four rural households still fall below the poverty line (FAO Zambia; World Bank, 2025). 

Boniface Chikwenda's family once lived this reality, a harvest of two or three bags left them hungry for much of the year. After #EmpoweredWorldView training and support from World Vision Zambia, they now harvest over 40 bags (50kg each) of groundnuts each season, enough to build a house, buy a motorbike, and invest in cattle and an ox cart.

"Our livelihood has now changed for the better," Boniface says. "We are living well because of the help we received from World Vision."

His wife Hilda now has access to clean water and a proper maternity room at the local clinic, while their son Cliff has found his own path forward, guided by faith and family. This is what community-centred development looks like: knowledge, opportunity, and support working together to build lasting change.
