Local fundraiser paints silver lining on community school's cloud.
A single dilapidated makeshift structure constructed of mud and wattle stood out in a large open space at Paluo parish of Pajule sub county in Pader district in Northern Uganda. It is here where pupils of Lacektar Primary School, a community school came to every morning for their classes. According to Benon Okumu, the headmaster of the school there are 378 pupils, yet the lower classes from nursery up till primary 2 have to make do with studying under a huge tree shade. Both the pupils and teachers share the same latrine.
In 2017, World Vision Uganda embarked on a local fundraising drive directly targeting local donors and well-wishers for its community development programs.. These give an opportunity for every one to impact lives of vulnerable communities.
Today, Mr. Okumu together with the pupils and staff of school are all smiles after the World Vision Uganda local donors and community partnership raised funds to construct classroom blocks furnished with desks plus an assortment of scholastic material including textbooks, mathematical sets, exercise books and maps among others.
The school still needs your support for the construction of latrines for both teachers and pupils as well as a teacher's quarter's.The teachers too have no staff room and thus keep under tree shades when out of class. The school also lacks a borehole to access clean water. Together with can transform lives of children by providing access to quality education.
