Fifth child registered in World Vision's sponsorship programme dies

Wednesday, August 13, 2014

After 3 days in the ICU, the fifth child registered in World Vision's programmes has died. Hammam Abu Suhaiban, 11, died from injuries he sustained when the vehicle he was riding in was hit by an artillery shell. His grandfather was also seriously injured in the incident.

Like many other families, when a humanitarian ceasefire was called for the morning of August 1st, the Abu Suhaiban family left the UNRWA school and headed to their home to access the damages. Unfortunately, the ceasefire collapsed less than 2 hours after it began, and Hammam and his family were hit as the fighting resumed.

Hammam has been a a registered and active in World Vision's sponsorship programme since 2009. Recently, he participated in the Birthday Bounce Back celebrations.  He also had received a number of gifts from World Vision.

Hammam was buried in the Rafah eastern cemetery along with a number of other people in a mass funeral.

In his introduction video to potential sponsors, Hammam expressed how much he loved his parents and Word Vision and how he wanted to become a football player.
