Suborna’s Leadership Journey in Child Protection and Youth Empowerment
Once a quiet and hesitant girl, Suborna never imagined she would one day lead, speak out, and inspire change in her community. Today, she serves as the Organizing Secretary of the Tongi AP Youth Forum under World Vision Bangladesh and is a member of the CHAMP Leaders South Asia Pacific team—an inspiring example of youth leadership in Bangladesh.
Growing up, Suborna’s life followed a familiar path—home, school, and societal expectations that limited girls’ dreams. Although her family supported her, the surrounding environment often discouraged her from thinking beyond traditional roles.
Her turning point came in 2020, when World Vision Bangladesh began working in her community. Encouraged by her brother, she joined a Child Forum—an experience that slowly reshaped her confidence and purpose. Initially, fear held her back. Speaking in public or standing up for her rights felt overwhelming. But over time, she realized that silence would never create change.
As Suborna became more involved, she faced criticism and social pressure. Yet, with growing support from her family and guidance from mentors, she found her voice. Through her work, she witnessed the harsh realities of child marriage and its impact on girls’ education, health, and future.
Determined to act, Suborna and her peers led awareness campaigns, community sessions, and rapid interventions to prevent child marriage. Their efforts paid off—their ward was declared free of child marriage, a milestone for community-based child protection.
Today, Suborna continues advocating against child labour and for children’s rights. Her journey shows how courage, community support, and opportunity can transform not just one life—but an entire community
