In a high-level meeting held in Accra, senior representatives from World Vision Ghana and World Vision US engaged with officials from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to strengthen collaborative efforts in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector.

The meeting brought together Bismark Norgbe and Allen Hollenbach from World Vision US, alongside Robel Wamisho and Cephas Wedam from World Vision Ghana’s WASH team. Discussions centred on enhancing the existing partnership between World Vision and the two ministries, with a shared commitment to achieving Universal Service Coverage in WASH across Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministries, Ing. Kwabena Gyasi-Duku, Director for Water at the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, commended World Vision Ghana for its impactful contributions to the WASH sector. He particularly lauded the organisation’s School Sanitation Solutions (Triple S) Challenge, describing it as a transformative initiative that empowers children to become sanitation ambassadors.

“The Triple S Challenge is a brilliant approach to instilling lifelong behavioural change in our youth. By engaging children in sanitation practices early on, we are cultivating a generation that will champion improved hygiene wherever they go,” Ing. Gyasi-Duku remarked

He also praised the Baobab District WASH Awards, an initiative by World Vision Ghana that recognises District Assemblies excelling in financing, implementing, and enforcing WASH-related bylaws. According to Ing. Gyasi-Duku, the awards have significantly influenced local governance, with sanitation now emerging as a key performance indicator (KPI) for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

“These awards have created healthy competition among districts and elevated the importance of sanitation in local development agendas. They are a testament to how strategic recognition can drive meaningful change,” he added.

Representing World Vision Ghana, Robel Wamisho and Bismark Norgbe reiterated the organisation’s dedication to continuous collaboration with government stakeholders. They highlighted World Vision’s commitment to Universal Service Coverage, aiming to ensure that every community in Ghana has access to clean water and improved sanitation facilities.

The Ministries reaffirmed their support for World Vision’s efforts, noting that the construction of water treatment plants and toilet facilities in schools and institutions remains a top priority for the government.

The meeting concluded with a shared vision for deeper collaboration, innovative programming, and sustained impact in Ghana’s WASH sector.
