World Vision Ghana has restored reliable electricity to the Auntie Rick Health Centre in Issah Kurah, improving access to safe and reliable healthcare services for the community after more than five years without stable power.

For years, the health centre originally built through the generosity of a foreign philanthropist served as the only healthcare lifeline for Issah Kurah and surrounding communities. However, the facility operated under severe limitations after its solar power system broke down, plunging the centre into darkness and significantly affecting service delivery.

Health workers continued to provide care under extremely difficult conditions, often attending to patients without adequate lighting, reliable medical equipment, or the ability to offer consistent night‑time services. Pregnant women and emergency cases were particularly affected, as safe deliveries and urgent treatments were frequently compromised.

In 2025, a turning point came through the support of World Vision US, which enabled World Vision Ghana, through the FY25 Community Gift funds for the Sekyere Afram Plains Area Programme, to rehabilitate the facility’s solar power system.

The intervention, valued at GHS120,000, (USD10,607.73) included the installation of nine solar panels with a capacity of 5.5 kilowatts, a 15.3‑kilowatt battery system, and a 10‑kilowatt inverter, ensuring a stable and sustainable supply of electricity.

Today, the transformation is evident. The health centre now operates with 24‑hour reliable power, significantly improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare services.

Healthcare workers can now conduct safe deliveries, emergency care, and critical treatments at any hour, restoring confidence among community members. With the lights back on, more people are returning to the facility, assured that they will receive timely and effective care when they need it most.

The restoration of power has not only improved service delivery but also enhanced dignity and working conditions for both patients and healthcare providers. It represents a critical step toward strengthening local health systems and ensuring equitable access to essential services.

World Vision Ghana emphasised that the intervention goes beyond infrastructure, reflecting a broader commitment to improving the wellbeing of vulnerable communities through sustainable solutions in healthcare and energy access.

The organisation continues to call for strengthened partnerships to scale similar interventions, particularly in underserved communities where access to reliable healthcare remains a challenge.

As Issah Kurah moves forward with renewed confidence, the restored solar system stands as a powerful example of how targeted investments can transform lives.

Reliable power is essential for delivering quality healthcare, supporting the wellbeing of communities, and strengthening local health systems
