World Vision Zambia and Zamtel Launch Partnership to Keep Girls in School
In rural Zambia, menstrual poverty remains a significant barrier to education for thousands of girls. For many, missing up to four or five days of school every month, not because of illness or absence of will, but because of a lack of menstrual hygiene products, is simply the reality of life.
Recognising this challenge, World Vision Zambia and Zamtel have joined forces to address it. The collaboration marks the activation of a Zamtel Money merchant code donation platform under the Flow Fund Campaign, making it easier for Zambians to contribute towards improving menstrual health and education outcomes for vulnerable girls.
The Flow Fund Campaign aims to provide reusable sanitary towels to 15,000 girls in rural Zambia by 2027, helping them remain in school and pursue their futures without interruption.
For girls in rural communities, the benefits of this partnership extend well beyond a sanitary towel. With consistent access to menstrual hygiene products, girls are able to attend school every day of the month, participate fully in class, and build the confidence that comes from not having to choose between their health and their education. Many rural girls currently drop out altogether after repeated absences erode their progress and their sense of belonging in school. This partnership directly addresses that cycle, giving girls the stability they need to stay enrolled, perform better, and eventually complete their education.
More than the launch of a donation platform, the partnership brings together two institutions aligned in purpose and values. It marks the beginning of a movement through which every Zambian has a role to play in ensuring girls have access to education with dignity and confidence.
Speaking at the launch, World Vision Zambia Resource Acquisition and Communications Director Pennia Mavedzenge described the partnership as a meaningful step forward in the effort to empower girls and keep them in school.
"Today marks an incredible opportunity and journey as we partner with Zamtel. Our hearts and vision are aligned, and today, your commitment has extended beyond connectivity. It has extended to connecting and empowering girls and transforming lives," she said.
Ms. Mavedzenge emphasised that every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn and achieve.
"We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to go to school. They deserve access to the same resources and the chance to thrive and reach their ambitions," she says. "As we activate this partnership and donation platform, let us remember that every contribution matters."
Zamtel Managing Director Comfort Chisala Nyondo spoke to the human reality behind the campaign, the girls whose education is disrupted month after month by a lack of basic menstrual hygiene products.
"Behind this campaign are real stories of children who walk long distances every day in pursuit of their dreams. We all have a role to play in ensuring that periods do not stand in the way of a girl child's education. Let us all become ambassadors for this cause," Ms. Nyongo says.
Chisala Nyondo added that the Zamtel Money merchant code provides every Zambian with a simple, accessible way to contribute.
"To support this worthy cause, every Zambian now has an easy and accessible platform through which they can make a difference and help girls stay in school," she says.
As a demonstration of its commitment, Zamtel donated K10,000 towards the Flow Fund Campaign at the launch, a gesture that reinforced the telecommunications company's support for keeping girls in school.
Girls like will have a chance to stay in school with restored respect and dignity.
The partnership reflects a growing commitment by Zambia's private sector and civil society organisations to address barriers that continue to deny girls equal access to education. Through this collaboration, World Vision Zambia and Zamtel are working towards a future where no girl misses school because of her period, and where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
