Vocational education gives hope to youth in institution
Children attend regular schools close to the institution on weekdays and return to their families on weekends. They also participate in various extracurricular activities organised both in and outside the institution.
The three vocational classrooms for hairdressing, sewing and cookery have been fully equipped with all the necessary materials to provide quality training for the residents of the institution and also children from the wider community who are from socially vulnerable families.
Professional development is of vital importance for me; it will help me gain confidence, recognise my strengths and not be exploited“This was an urgent need for the institution since we recognise that these children face a problem in finding a job after they graduate as they are not properly prepared. These classrooms will ensure that both girls and boys receive quality vocational education,” said Tigran Stepanyan, Principal of Child Care Institution #2.
“I am glad to have a chance to gain practical knowledge and skills that can help me find a job in future or even create my own business.
Professional development is of vital importance for me; it will help me gain confidence, recognise my strengths and not be exploited,” said a 17-year-old girl from the institution.
This initiative has been a result of joint efforts and commitment of “The future is yours” local NGO, World Vision, HSBC bank and Government of Armenia.
The classrooms have been furnished with the support of HSBC bank, while World Vision will ensure their further operation with provision of all the necessary materials and organization of master classes, in the frame of the “Reducing Violence against Children in Armenia” project funded by the European Commission.
The project aims to build the capacity of state agencies dealing with violence and amendment of national laws on child protection. The project is also being implemented in Kapan and Vanadzor towns.
