World Council of Churches (WCC)
The World Council of Churches (WCC) is dedicated to promoting Christian unity and addressing critical global issues from a faith-based perspective. Founded in 1948, the WCC brings together a diverse fellowship of churches, including Protestant, Orthodox, and other Christian denominations, to work towards a just, peaceful, and reconciled.
Since the 1980s, World Vision and the World Council of Churches have collaborated to bring hope and transformation to the world's most vulnerable communities. Together, we strive to see local churches actively supporting and engaging in initiatives that promote well-being and create enabling environments for children and families to thrive.
Together we partner at the national (for example in Lesotho), regional (for example in WVs MoU with the All Africa Council of Churches) and globally (including joint advocacy efforts in New York and Geneva).
For almost ten years, we have worked to address violence against children through the Faith Action for Children on the Move Coalition. Today, this joint work focuses on action and advocacy for faith sensitive mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) rooted in a joint pledge to the Global Refugee Forum in 2023.
Today, World Vision and the World Council of Churches partner on various initiatives, including the Prayer & Action Against Hunger Coalition (PAAHC), which evolved from the Weekend of Prayer and Action Against Hunger. This coalition mobilises faith communities worldwide to address hunger and food security through prayer, advocacy, and action.
World Vision and WCC also collaborate through the Partnership on Religion and Development (PaRD), a network of faith-based organisations, governments, multilateral organisations and academic institutions. We co-convene the Taskforce on Food Security and have launched a flagship project, Strengthening Faith-Based Partnerships for Sustainable Food Security and Community-Led Development and made a commitment to the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.
Both World Vision and WCC are driven by a shared vision of a world where justice, peace, and reconciliation prevail. Our partnership leverages the strengths, assets, and influence of local churches to create positive change and promote the well-being of children, families, and communities.
By working together, World Vision and the World Council of Churches can amplify our impact, fostering greater solidarity and community engagement to address the challenges of the contemporary world.
