Ghana has inaugurated its National Advisory Committee (NAC) for Regreening Africa Phase II, an ambitious European Union (EU)-funded initiative designed to restore degraded landscapes and strengthen community resilience across the continent.

The inauguration ceremony took place on 29 January 2026 at the Crystal Palm Hotel in Accra. In Ghana, the project is being implemented by World Vision Ghana, which serves as the lead organisation, in partnership with CIFOR-ICRAF, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), CARE, Sahel Eco, and Agronomes & Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (AVSF).

Regreening Africa Phase II seeks to improve food and nutrition security, enhance resilience to climate change, and promote sustainable land-use practices. To achieve these objectives, the project will scale up established regreening approaches.

These include agroforestry, tree planting and management, home gardening with trees, soil and water conservation, soil health improvement, sustainable grazing and pastoral management, and the Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) method.

The programme also places strong emphasis on empowering women and young people. It aims to strengthen policy environments, improve local governance systems, and stimulate investment in restoration-focused enterprises.

The newly inaugurated National Advisory Committee is expected to provide strategic guidance, improve coordination, and support the effective implementation of the project in Ghana. The inauguration was led by the National Director of World Vision Ghana, following a series of presentations that outlined the scope of the project, and the outcomes anticipated in Phase II.

World Vision Ghana’s National Director, Dr Tinah Mukunda, delivered the welcome address and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to championing environmental restoration. She stated that the Regreening Africa programme “represents a powerful opportunity to restore our landscapes while uplifting the communities that depend on them.”

The ceremony also featured opening remarks from the EU delegation, presentations on the project’s framework, and the election of Prof. Saa Dittoh of the University for Development Studies as the NAC Chairperson.

The National Advisory Committee is expected to play a central role in shaping Ghana’s regreening agenda. Its work will involve strengthening partnerships across government, civil society, and the private sector, as well as improving coordination among implementing partners to ensure that communities fully benefit from the programme’s interventions.

With substantial EU investment and strong institutional collaboration, Regreening Africa Phase II is well positioned to accelerate Ghana’s progress towards climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, and improved livelihoods for vulnerable households.
