From Struggle to Strength: How Access to Healthcare Changed My Life

"Growing up in Samanyhia was never easy. My parents were hardworking peasant farmers, yet we often struggled to meet our daily needs despite their tireless efforts. There were days when we had little or nothing to eat. There were days when we had little or nothing to eat. My siblings, Ivan, Isaac and I attended school regularly, but it was a long walk from home. Our house lacked necessities, and fetching water meant walking long distances to a contaminated source.
This took a toll on our health. We frequently fell ill, which kept us out of school and made it difficult to keep up with our studies. Even when we managed to attend school, we were often too exhausted to concentrate. It felt like an endless cycle of illness, fatigue, and falling behind. At times, it was hard to hold on to hope.
Everything began to change when World Vision started working in our community. Through their capacity-building programme for the Community Health Management Committees (CHMCs), our local Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound was transformed. One of the most impactful changes was the construction of an admission support unit. Thanks to this facility, children like me could receive immediate care for illnesses and injuries instead of waiting for treatment or watching conditions worsen due to delays.
Thanks to World Vision, we now have access to timely, essential healthcare. I no longer have to travel long distances or wait endlessly to see a doctor. I’m healthier and more energetic, and I can attend school consistently. With fewer sick days, I can focus on my studies and participate fully in class. For the first time, I feel confident in my ability to learn and grow.
My dream of becoming a teacher feels within reach. I can pursue my education without constantly fearing that I will fall behind due to illness. I am deeply grateful to World Vision for bringing this transformation to our community, making healthcare accessible, and giving us hope.
We are healthier, more educated, and more optimistic about the future. Thank you, World Vision, for empowering us and creating a legacy of change that will benefit not only us, but also future generations.
