Bruqin Secondary Girls School in Salfit, one of the 37 schools targeted by the Promoting Environment Friendly Practices and Green Schools in Palestine” project, received the International School Award (ISA) given by the British Council in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Education. The school received this prize in recognition of the school's activities about environment and the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). The school presented the environmental club interventions and activities through videoconference with the participation of other schools from other countries.

The ISA aims to recognize and encourage successful practices in curriculum-based international work in schools. Bruqin schoolwork includes interventions, whereby students shared ideas about waste reduction and recycle. The students gained this knowledge through participating the project activities, capacity buildings and training.

Environmental club students Nour Jamal and Abrar Khater from Bruqin Secondary Girls School participated in the International School competition by introducing Palestine's aromatic and medicinal plants. The two students also shared their experiences with partner schools on the importance of the environment, planting trees and ornamental plants and their role in reducing pollution rates, beautifying the environment and addressing desertification and soil erosion. "The role of the environmental club at our school is preserving the school environment from afforestation, weeding and painting murals with the support of a global vision that nurtures, encourages and promotes green environmentally friendly behaviors," said the girls.

The “Promoting Environment Friendly Practices and Green Schools in Palestine” targets 37 public schools in the West Bank Governorates and is funded by the “German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)”, and is implemented by World Vision in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Education and other partners.
