At Akorsakrom Basic School, the evening bell used to signal more than the close of lessons; it meant a water race. Pupils hurried off campus to a distant hand pump, often returning late, tired, and sometimes empty-handed. Today, clean water flows right on the school compound. The difference is life-changing.

Through a strategic partnership between World Vision Ghana and Polytank Ghana Limited, more than 50,000 people across the Ahafo and Eastern Regions now have improved access to safe and reliable water.

A Partnership Rooted in Purpose

The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed ahead of the launch of the Ahafo Region Integrated WASH Program (ARIWP). Under this agreement, Polytank Ghana Limited, as part of its corporate social responsibility commitment, supplied 26 high-capacity polytanks to support the construction and rehabilitation of water systems in underserved communities, schools, and health facilities.

Those tanks have become more than storage units, they are vessels of health, dignity, and opportunity.

Communities Transformed

In Asutifi North and Asunafo North, 26 communities with a combined population of 42,727 people now enjoy improved water services. For families in places like Asumura Nyamebekyere, this shift has been profound.

Not long ago, women and children walked long distances daily to fetch water from unsafe sources. Today, many households have direct connections delivering clean water to their homes. Parents report fewer illnesses among their children, and teachers are witnessing better attendance and concentration in class. The community has officially moved from “No Service” to “Safely Managed” water status, a milestone residents proudly celebrate.

In Fanteakwa in the Eastern Region, six additional communities received emergency support, bringing safe water to 5,132 residents who previously depended on unreliable sources.

Water for Learning and Healing

The ripple effects extend far beyond homes.

Thirty basic schools serving more than 12,000 pupils now have dependable water supplies. At Akorsakrom Basic School, the old hand pump has been upgraded into a solar-powered mechanised water system, complete with a dedicated standpipe on campus. For the school’s 234 pupils, water is no longer a barrier to learning but a foundation for better hygiene and improved academic performance.

Health facilities have also felt the impact. Eight clinics and health centers now have reliable access to water, strengthening infection prevention measures and supporting safer maternal and child health services. For nurses and midwives, clean water is not a luxury it is essential to saving lives.

Collaboration That Delivers

The strength of this initiative lies in its coordinated approach. The MoU between World Vision Ghana and Polytank Ghana Limited provided a clear framework for material support, implementation, and community engagement. By aligning resources and expertise, the partnership ensured that infrastructure was not only installed but positioned for sustainability and local ownership.

Beyond Infrastructure

While the numbers are impressive, 50,000 lives reached, 26 communities served, 30 schools supported, the real story is found in everyday moments: children staying in class, mothers saving hours once spent fetching water, health workers delivering babies in safer conditions.

The success of the ARIWP initiative demonstrates that when private sector commitment meets community-focused development, transformation follows.

As World Vision Ghana and Polytank Ghana Limited reaffirm their shared commitment to expanding water access, one truth stands clear: clean water does more than quench thirst; it unlocks potential, restores dignity, and strengthens the resilience of entire communities.
