Beyond generating income, the project is providing young people with opportunities to learn, work together, and build confidence.

World Vision is helping girls like Juliet, 12, from Malawi stay in school by addressing period poverty through reusable sanitary pads. Juliet once missed classes because her family could not afford disposable pads, which cost about K2,000 ($1.15) per packet. World Vision trained and equipped mother groups on the production of reusable sanitary pads, which has turned out to be a transformative solution. As a result, girls are attending classes with confidence, absenteeism has reduced, and hygiene practices have improved across the school.

Beyond improved yields, farmers also say they have adopted climate-smart agriculture practices, including monitoring rainfall patterns and using the data to guide planting decisions. The approach, they say, has reduced losses caused by unpredictable weather.

Members hope to begin selling pork as the herd grows and eventually establish a butchery within the settlement, creating additional employment and business opportunities.

We are supporting farmers with climate-smart agricultural practices, access to savings, markets, and technologies that help them adapt to changing weather conditions. The programme has reached nearly 10,000 farmers in Lamwo and Adjumani districts, including both refugees and members of host communities.

That situation began to change after the family joined the Aleamandro Farmer Group under the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) Programme and was introduced to nutrition-sensitive agriculture, a farming approach designed to address both food shortages and poor diets at the same time.
